Quick Prospector wins Texas Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes at Gillespie

Veronica Garcia’s Quick Prospector scored a hard-fought victory over Powerbeinz in the $12,300 Texas Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes on Saturday afternoon at the Gillespie County Fairgrounds. Sent off as the even-money favorite, the 5-year-old son of Texas City won the six-furlong Texas-bred race by a half-length in a time of 1:13.36 with Joel Aranda riding for trainer Raul Garcia.

Bred by Ray E. Hammonds, Quick Prospector has won five of 13 career starts with earnings of $30,487. Four of his five victories have come at Gillespie and the other came at Manor Downs.

Jesus Garcia’s Powerbeinz put in a game effort to finish second, and Tammy Wincott’s Dallas County took third.
