Texas-bred Big Sweets rolls to easy score in $75,000 Prairie Gold Lassie Stakes

7/17/2010

Texas-bred Big Sweets, a 2-year-old daughter of American Champ, scored an easy 6 ½-length victory as a 15-1 longshot in the $75,000 Prairie Gold Lassie Stakes on July 17 at Prairie Meadows in Iowa. Bred by Richard Hessee, the filly runs for Hessee, Reginald Jones and Paul Girdner.

With Glenn Corbett riding for trainer Don Roberson, the Texas-bred jumped out to a quick lead and was never threatened before stopping the timer at 1:03.99 for 5 ½ furlongs. The filly scored a similar victory at Prairie Meadows when she broke her maiden there by 5 ¼ lengths on May 28. After that effort, she shipped to Churchill Downs and finished seventh in the Debutante Stakes (G3). Her earnings now stand at $61,298 after three starts.

Big Sweets is the first starter out of Many Many Sweets, a winning daughter of Atticus.
